Below are listed some of the most relevant courses that I have taken or am currently taking. The course descriptions are provided by the CSUN  and CSULB Catalog.

FALL 2020

  • MKTG 470: Marketing Research                                                                                                      Fundamentals of marketing and industrial research as an aid to problem-solving in business. Familiarization with current industry research efforts. Data collection, interviewing, and report-generation software. Analysis of data. Project, instrument and sampling designs.

  • MGMT 425: Business Strategy and Policy                                                                                            Integration and application of knowledge theories and techniques derived from the study of business disciplines. Use of the case method and business simulations to formulate business strategies and plans. Written reports required.

  • MKTG 350: Introduction to Entrepreneurial Marketing                                                                    Marketing in an entrepreneurial context. Topics include venture opportunities, marketing strategies and marketing mix for a venture, new product/service development, marketing research for new business opportunities, business model creation and innovation, sales forecast and performance evaluation of a venture.

 

SPRING 2020

  • FIN 300: Business Finance.                                                                                                              Introductory course for all business majors. Integration of computer applications and management information systems in (1) Time Value of Money, Risk, Valuation, Cost of Capital; (2) Capital Budgeting; (3) Long-Term Financing Decisions; (4) Working Capital Policy and Management; (5) Financial Analysis and Planning; (6) International Finance; (7) Special topics including Mergers, Acquisition and Bankruptcy.

  • IS 300: Management Information Systems.                                                                                    Information systems concepts and components, contemporary organizational applications, development and management of information systems, and future trends. Computer-based team projects requiring integration and application of conceptual and skills-oriented information systems knowledge in business environment.

  • MKTG 330: Advertising and Promotion I.                                                                                              Principles and practices of advertising. Social and economic importance of advertising and its relation to modern business organization. Importance of an advertising plan, preparation of advertisements, copy and layout, media planning and application of information technology.

  • IS 301: Business Communications.                                                                                                            Analysis of principles of collecting, organizing, analyzing, and presenting business information. Written and oral communications involving problem solving in the business management process.

FALL 2019

  • MKTG 300: Principles of Marketing.                                                                                         The study of buyer behavior, marketing research, pricing, distribution, promotion, product strategies, and the influence of external factors. The roles of ethics, corporate social responsibility, and public policy that are intrinsic to marketing decision making in global environments are explored.

  • MGMT 300: Principles of Management and Operations.                                                                                Principles and theories of management, organization theory, planning, and control techniques. Management of the overall organization and the production/operation systems of organizations.

  • IS 310: Business Statistics I.                                                                                                                                    Application of statistics to business problems. Data collection and organization, probability theory, measures of central tendency and dispersion, hypothesis testing and estimation, simple regression, and correlation. Use of statistical software.

  • HRM 360: Organizational Behavior.                                                                                                                      Overview of the dynamics of human behavior in organizations and implications for management. Motivation, personality and attitudes, human perception, groups and teams, norms, power and politics, conflict, learning, communication, job design, organizational culture, organizational change, leadership, and cross-cultural issues.

SPRING 2019

  • ACCT 230: Introduction to Managerial Accounting.                                                            Introduces the role of accounting in business and society, a summary of the accounting process, accounting measurement issues, analyzing and recording financial transactions, accounting valuation, and allocation issues, the conceptual foundation for understanding financial reporting, the usefulness of financial statements for decision making and financial statement analysis and interpretation.

  • BLAW 280: Business Law I.                                                                                                                                Study of the role of law in business, including the study of legal institutions and their role in facilitating and regulating business. Includes a study of the legal system, civil litigation, torts, and the formation and performance of contracts.

  • ECON 161: Principles of Macroeconomics.                                                                                  Introduction to economics as it applies to the national and international economy. Topics include differences in standards of living across countries, the monetary system and the determinants of inflation, and the factors causing growth and recessions. Examines the ability of the Federal Reserve and other government policymakers to influence the course of the economy.

FALL 2018

  • SPAN 101: Elementary Spanish I.                                                                                                  Study of the fundamentals of Spanish, including grammatical structures, reading, and practice in the spoken language. 

  • ECON 160: Principles of Microeconomics                                                                              Introduction to economics as it applies to the functioning of markets, businesses, and households. Examines how individuals make decisions about how to use scarce resources efficiently and how these decisions affect markets and the overall economy. The effect of government policies on the functioning of markets also is examined. 

  • ACCT 220: Introduction to Financial Accounting.                                                        Introduces the role of accounting in business and society, a summary of the accounting process, accounting measurement issues, analyzing and recording financial transactions, accounting valuation, and allocation issues, the conceptual foundation for understanding financial reporting, the usefulness of financial statements for decision making and financial statement analysis and interpretation.

 

SPRING 2018

  • COMS 225: Argumentation.                                                                                                      Studies of the strategies used for the rhetorical argument. Emphasis is given to ways of finding issues, using evidence, and detecting fallacies in rhetorical communications. The practice is given in the formulation and critical analysis of the argument in rhetorical communications.

  • SOM 120: Basic Business Statistics.                                                                                             Basic elements of statistics for students in business and economics. Descriptive statistics, elements of probability, probability distributions (including normal), sampling distributions, statistical inference for means and proportions (including estimation and hypothesis testing), simple linear regression, and correlation. Applications of these topics in business and economics are emphasized. The course requires assignments in which students are required to explain the results of statistical computations using personal computer software. 

  • ENGL 205: Business Communication.                                                                                         Development of critical writing, thinking, research, and technology skills in the context of business. Through substantial writing and other work, students will hone their written, oral, and visual communication skills, and their ability to find, synthesize, and make arguments based on primary and secondary sources. Emphasis on communication with a diverse audience and case studies about ethical issues common to the local and global business world.

 

FALL 2017

  • AAS 151: Fundamentals of Public Speaking.                                                                          This course is an introduction to public speaking and oral communications processes, with particular emphasis on issues related to Asian American Studies and Asian Pacific American communities. In addition to basic skills, students will be introduced to Asian Pacific American figures who have used oral communication as a way to address issues related to race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, identity, and community. Students will be required to deliver a variety of speeches. The course will include intensive practice in public speaking, logical reasoning, and critical reasoning. Students are required to attend 15 hours of public speaking events outside of the classroom. 

  • MATH 103:  Mathematical Methods for Business                                                      Concepts and applications of algebra and calculus to business. Topics include functions, systems of equations, matrices, derivative and business-related topics in calculus.

  • COMP 100: Computers: Their Impacts and Use.                                                                    Introduction to the uses, concepts, techniques, and terminology of computing. Places the possibilities and problems of computer use in historical, economic, and social contexts. Shows how computers can assist in a wide range of personal, commercial, and organizational activities. Typical computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
